Wärtsilä RT-flex96C
The RT-flex96C is a low-speed marine two-stroke diesel — the class of engine that powers container ships — and at 960 mm bore by 2500 mm stroke it is the largest engine in the preset library by an enormous margin. It turns at 102 rpm, directly coupled to the propeller with no gearbox, and each cylinder produces several megawatts. Engines of this type are the most thermally efficient reciprocating machines ever built, and the reason is visible in the model: an extremely long stroke, uniflow scavenging and very low speed together minimise every loss term the cycle has. It is also the best available demonstration that the same thermodynamic model scales across four orders of magnitude of displacement.

Notes for modelling
- Mean piston speed at 102 rpm with a 2500 mm stroke is comparable to a car engine at 3000 rpm — that comparison is the point of the preset.
- Uniflow scavenging through exhaust valves in the head with intake ports at the bottom of the liner.
- Per-cylinder output; production versions are built in six- to fourteen-cylinder configurations.
