VAZ-341 (diesel)

The VAZ-341 is the small automotive diesel developed from the Samara petrol family, and at 23:1 it carries by far the highest compression ratio of any road preset here. That single number changes the whole character of the cycle: compression-ignition means no spark timing, a much higher peak cylinder pressure, and a P-V diagram with a visibly different combustion phase from its petrol siblings. It is the cleanest way to see the diesel cycle next to the Otto cycle using the same bore and stroke, since the geometry is close to the VAZ-2108. The calculator returns the full cycle and the resulting crank-train loads.

Notes for modelling

  • Run it against the VAZ-2108 preset: near-identical geometry, completely different combustion, directly comparable P-V diagrams.
  • High compression means high peak pressure — this preset is a good subject for the stress calculator.
  • Fuel type is set to diesel in the preset; changing it invalidates the combustion assumptions.
