VAZ-2106 (Lada 1600)

The VAZ-2106 engine is the 1.6-litre carburetted four from the classic Lada saloons, and it is the engine most commonly set as a coursework and diploma subject across the former Soviet Union. Its 79 mm bore and 80 mm stroke make it almost exactly square, with a modest 9:1 compression ratio suited to the fuel of its era. That combination makes it an ideal teaching example: the numbers are undramatic, the geometry is simple, and every stage of the cycle is easy to follow in the P-V diagram. The calculator runs the full thermodynamic cycle and the crank-train dynamics, and exports the tabulated results to CSV.

Notes for modelling

  • A standard coursework task is to raise the compression ratio and quantify the efficiency gain — change CR and compare the indicated work.
  • The valve-timing fields hold the factory phases; a sport-cam study is a change to opening and closing angles.
  • CSV export gives the per-crank-angle table most written reports need.
