SMD-31 (СМД-31)
The SMD-31 is the six-cylinder turbocharged development of the Kharkiv SMD family, used in combine harvesters and heavy agricultural machinery. It shares the 120 × 140 mm cylinder geometry of the SMD-18 but runs a slightly lower 16:1 compression ratio and adds forced induction — the standard way of adding output to a diesel without changing its bore or stroke. Because the geometry is identical to the SMD-18 preset, running both isolates the effect of turbocharging on a compression-ignition engine exactly the way the C20XE and C20LET pair does for petrol.
Preset parameters
Values below are the preset the calculator loads — you can change every one of them in the form. Angles are absolute crank angle (CA) on a 0–720° cycle.
Reference figures
Manufacturer figures carried by the preset for comparison. They are reference values, not calculator output.
Notes for modelling
- Preset power and fuel-consumption figures are reference values for the model, not a certified specification.
- Run it against the SMD-18 preset: same geometry, lower compression, higher intake pressure.
- Turbocharging raises peak cylinder pressure — the stress calculator is the next step.
